What's Your Hometown Famous For?

All About Me

OkonomiyakiOsaka is famous for Okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is a pancake containing seafood or meat and vegetables.

There are two different styles in Japan, Hiroshima and Osaka. The Osaka style's batter is made of flour, egg and grated nagaimo as a thickener instead of water.

There are more than 3,000 Okonomiyaki restaurants in my hometown, and they have Okonomiyaki set meals during lunch time. It's Okonomiyaki with miso soup and rice. People living outside of Osaka feel weird about that because they think Okonomiyaki and addition to a bowl of rice has too many carbohydrates. But we eat one bowl of rice as a side dish.

Osaka is also famous for Takoyaki, a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of flour based batter and cooked in a takoyaki pan.

Every household seems to have a takoyaki pan in Osaka. When I was a child, we used to have a takoyaki party at home.

If you have a takoyaki party, you can put mochi in it. It tastes really good.
